West Rock Ridge State Park
Hamden/New Haven, Connecticut
With about 1,688 acres of land, West Rock Ridge is the third largest state park in Connecticut. It is located just northwest of New Haven, Connecticut. Rising up to 627 feet above mean sea level, West Rock Ridge is one of the most prominent features in the area and gives the visitor a spectacular view of New Haven Harbor and Long Island Sound.
There are about 22 miles of marked trails in the park, all of which are marked with painted blazes. Primary trails include the 7-mile (11 km) Regicides Trail, which runs along the ridgecrest; the Red Trail which runs the length of the park at the east base of West Rock Ridge, and the White Trail, which passes along the shore of Lake Wintergreen. A network of shorter trails pass between these main routes.
