-- South End White Trail Ascent--
December 18th, 2011 - Trail Maintenance
A reporter from a local paper joined us today. Assembling quickly in the Daneils Farm parking lot our crew took a short walk into the park to the First Rocky Ascent on the White Trail.
Fallen Trees on the Blue
Nick and Steve split off first thing and went down by the river to clear some massive trees (see pics) that had fallen on the Blue Trail from last week's storms.
Knickwork
Meanwhile, we had climbed up the Rocky Ascent and began our work. Although the soil was frozen, we were able to dig out a couple of strategically-placed knicks using pick axes, rogue hoes and shovels. These should help divert some of the run off at a higher level and keep the bottom of the hill from getting muddy. Mike, the reporter, walked with us and got a good feel--for not only the type of trail maintenance work we do--but also understanding the underlying concept of sustainability we strive for.
