March 17th - Trail Maintenance

We returned to this spot to armor the section that seems to stay eternally muddy. Without any rocks nearby, our meager but spirited crew lugged quite a few massive rocks scattered some distance away from the mud using a rock crib that Dave brought. Dave mastermind fitting them all together and we scattered leaves and deadfall to narrow the ever-widening trail back to a single-track experience.

The final touch was to replant a pine tree to solidify forest reclamation in this stretch. Many thanks to FC NEMBA Dave Francefort whose tireless efforts and expertise guaranteed this will last for the next millennium!

May 15th, 2010 - Trail Maintenance

Where the trail from the stunt park joins the main trail right before the ascent, there's always a large muddy patch that needs addressing. This spot is perpetually soft and muddy because the runoff from the long rocky descent above has nowhere to go.

Knicking and Channeling Muddy Area

We first knicked the edge of the water-logged trail. Dave masterminded the effort to build a rock-lined channel where the water usually gathers. We dug out a channel and lined it with rocks pitching the channel slightly to direct the water off the trail. Finally, we tapered the edges making it almost almost invisible to the unobservant passerby.
