About the Site and its Web Designer
This site was created for train buffs as well as residents of Connecticut. Although there are other train buff sites and digital online historical photo collections, none focused specifically on the Stamford to New Canaan branch line; detailing its history and current usage.
About the Designer
Richard Coffey, the site's creator, is both an avid train buff and a professional "interactive designer." He is currently engaged in developing & designing business web sites & animated interactive multimedia. Employed in New York City, he enjoys his commute from Connecticut on the New Canaan branch five times weekly.
Purpose
As an avid train buff and a professional web designer/developer, a project such as this site served a three-fold purpose:
- as a creative challenge: to design a detailed, interactive, yet "fun to navigate" site to educate anyone interested in train history
- to demonstrate how this branch line has played such an important role in the development of Stamford and New Canaan
- [using New Canaan as an analogy] to illustrate the potential value a commuter railroad could have in improving a community anywhere in America
